Cui Wei, Takeshi Kondo, Hirofumi Anno, Guo Yuyin, Takahisa Sato, Masayoshi Sarai, Hitoshi Shinozaki, Satoshi Kakizawa, Atsushi Sugiura, Keita Oshima, Kazuhiro Katada, Hitoshi Hishida [Abstract] This study aimed to determine the most suitable slice thickness for measuring ventricular volume using the Simpson method in multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT), and to assess the accuracy of ventricular volume calculations with this imaging technique. A total of 14 left ventricular (LV) and 15 right ventricular (RV) casts were scanned using a Toshiba Aquilion MSCT system. Short-axis multiplanar reformatted (MPR) images were generated with slice thicknesses of 2.0, 3.5, 5.0, 7.0, and 10.0 mm. The standard Simpson method was used to calculate the volumes, while the true volumes were determined by water displacement. Results showed that all calculated volumes were overestimated compared to the actual volumes, with LV estimates ranging from (3.21 ± 5.95) ml to (12.58 ± 8.56) ml, and RV estimates between (10.22 ± 8.45) ml and (23.91 ± 12.24) ml. A strong correlation was found between calculated and actual volumes (LV r > 0.97, RV r > 0.95). Moreover, there was a significant positive correlation between overestimation and slice thickness (LV r = 0.998, RV r = 0.996). When the slice thickness was reduced to 5 mm, the overestimation became statistically insignificant compared to the 2 mm thickness. Therefore, a 5 mm slice thickness is recommended as the most efficient and accurate setting for ventricular volume measurement using the Simpson method in MSCT. MSCT proved to be a reliable tool for assessing both left and right ventricular volumes. Frozen squid tentacles are the arms or tentacles of a squid that have been frozen for preservation. Squid tentacles are commonly used in cooking and are popular in many cuisines around the world. They can be grilled, fried, sautéed, or used in soups and stews. Frozen squid tentacles are convenient to use as they can be stored in the freezer for an extended period and can be thawed and cooked as needed. They are also a good source of protein and low in fat, making them a healthy addition to any meal.
