Wintering method for large potted white orchids

Cut the plastic rope into pieces about 50 centimeters long. One by one, tie each piece to the branches of the white orchid. Then, gently pull each rope from top to bottom toward the trunk, shaping them into a broom-like form.

Start with gentle movements—avoid being too forceful at first. Gradually increase pressure as you tighten the ropes, ensuring that you don’t apply too much force that could break the branches. As you bring the ropes closer to the trunk, make sure they are arranged according to the natural spacing between the branches. Avoid overlapping or hiding the branches, as this will help the plant receive even light exposure and improve its cold resistance.

Before starting the process, it's best to stop watering for two days so the soil in the pot dries slightly. This makes it easier to manipulate the branches without damaging them. When using the plastic ropes, ensure that the bundled branches are reduced by at least two-thirds in width, but the height is increased. Place the orchid in a well-lit or bright area. All other care routines remain the same.

The following year, before moving the orchid back outdoors after the spring warming period, carefully untie each branch from the bottom up. When cutting the ropes, hold the branches with one hand and use scissors with the other to avoid the branches bouncing back and knocking off new growth. If the branches don’t naturally return to their original position after removing the ropes, perform a gentle anti-pull action to allow the leaves to catch sunlight for photosynthesis. However, be careful not to overdo it, as excessive pulling may damage the plant.
