I’m typing this between bites of breakfast while trying to keep an eye on my toddler who’s running circles around the kitchen table. My older daughter is already at her virtual class, and I’ve got maybe two hours before I need to be out the door for the airport. Miami is calling, but I can’t help but feel torn between excitement for the trip and guilt about leaving my family behind. Living in Florida has its perks—no snow, no freezing windchills—but sometimes I miss the crisp air and the way it smells like pumpkin spice and fresh cider in Michigan during this time of year. Here, it’s still warm enough to wear shorts, and the trees haven’t even begun to change color. Still, we’ve been trying to bring some autumn vibes into our lives, even if it’s not exactly authentic. Yesterday, we decided to go “boo-ing” in the neighborhood. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, it’s basically like trick-or-treating but done anonymously. You leave a little treat package on someone’s doorstep, ring the bell, and run away before they can catch you. My daughter LOVED it. She giggled every time we approached a new house, and her eyes lit up when she heard the recipient exclaiming over their surprise. We ended up doing it three times before heading home, and by the end of the day, she was exhausted but thrilled. I managed to snap a few pictures, though I’ll admit, I forgot to upload them to my computer. Oops. Later, we took a walk down the trail behind our house. It’s not exactly New England in terms of fall foliage, but there were still moments where I felt like I was getting a taste of autumn. We collected leaves, pinecones, and acorns, filling our basket as we went. The kids were fascinated by everything—how the leaves crunched underfoot, how the sunlight filtered through the branches, how the air smelled slightly cooler than it had earlier in the week. It wasn’t quite the same as the Midwest, but it was close enough to feel special. Today, I wanted to share these little glimpses of fall with you because, honestly, it’s been nice to have something to look forward to amid all the chaos. But now, I really need to focus on packing. I’ve got a suitcase sitting open on the bed, and somehow, I still feel like I’ve forgotten something crucial. Maybe a charger? Or socks? Who knows. Anyway, tell me—are you doing anything fun to celebrate the season where you live? I’d love to hear what everyone else is up to! Signing off for now… signature P.S. If you're interested in more seasonal activities or tips for staying cozy during the colder months, let me know! I'd be happy to share more ideas.
