Selecting the fish: Choose more than one pound of fish. Males should have a milky white semen discharge when their abdomen is gently pressed, and there should be no swelling near the anal area.
Water spawning setup: Place the male and female fish in a suspended fish cage within the water, and provide a suitable nest for them. Position the fish so that their backs are about 3 cm below the water surface. This helps stimulate spawning through temperature differences and gentle water currents. If 2 ml of 50% glucose is injected into the base of each pectoral fin of the female, it can significantly enhance the spawning effect.
Incubation process: It's best to use fresh water in the spawning and hatching ponds. The water shouldn't be too rich or murky. Maintain a water temperature between 18–22°C. Use smooth, rootless daffodils without mud, cut the stems and leaves to prevent them from sticking to the eggs and causing sunburn. Also, ensure that males don’t eat the eggs to improve hatching success. Regular monitoring and careful handling during this stage are crucial for a successful hatch.
