It’s important to keep the lofts clean and quiet, use a balanced diet of granular feed and sufficient grit, and add a small amount of multivitamin B solution—about 3 to 4 grams per pigeon daily, given once or twice a day. Bathing helps keep the feathers clean, prevents external parasites, and stimulates hormone production, promoting growth. Typically, pigeons should be bathed once a day in warm weather and once or twice a week in colder conditions. Cage-bred pigeons may require less frequent bathing. Encouraging movement also helps improve their physical condition. In summer, proper ventilation and mosquito control are essential. In winter, ensuring the loft is warm and securing the entrance at night to protect against predators like cats and rats is crucial. Around two months of age, the young pigeons begin to molt. At this stage, the feed formula should include more energy-rich feed (around 85% to 90% of the diet) and 5% to 6% flaxseed to support feather regrowth. Clean drinking water should also be supplemented with herbal remedies such as Andrographis and gentian, along with antibiotics if needed, to prevent respiratory and digestive diseases. Throughout the rearing process, maintaining cleanliness is vital. Pigeon droppings should be removed daily, and feeding and watering equipment should be cleaned regularly to avoid contamination. Proper hygiene ensures the health and well-being of the young birds.
