TMJ-I Area Measuring Instrument User Manual Source: Hangzhou Top Instrument

1. Startup:

Turn on the power switch to start the device. The initial screen will appear in scan mode, displaying messages such as "GPS Area Measuring Instrument," "Top Instrument," and "Searching Satellite..." At the same time, the numbers in the upper left corner will gradually increase from 01 to 99, indicating that the device is searching for satellite signals. This process may take a few minutes.

2. Measurement Interface:

Once the satellite signal is successfully acquired (this may take several minutes), the measurement interface will be displayed. It includes the following information:

  • "Ready" – indicates the instrument is ready for use.
  • "000" – shows the number of recorded data points.
  • "12:18" – displays the current time, 12:18.
  • "ZD" – indicates the device is in automatic mode.
  • "08" – shows there are 8 visible satellites.
  • "Longitude 12011.500158" – represents the longitude of the location, which is 120 degrees 11.500158 minutes.
  • "Latitude 3016.208038" – represents the latitude of the location, which is 30 degrees 16.208038 minutes.

3. Automatic Area Measurement:

After entering the measurement interface, press the “Start” key to begin the measurement. By default, the device is in “Auto” mode, and the LCD screen will show “ZD.”

Hold the measuring instrument flat with the red "hawk icon" aligned with the boundary of the area you want to measure. Press the “Start” button to initiate the process. The LCD screen will then display:

  • Measuring 001
  • Longitude 12011.500158
  • Latitude 3016.208038
  • 12:18
  • ZD08

Walk around the perimeter of the area. The device will automatically record all the data. When you return to the starting point, press the “Area” button to view the results:

  • 01 average 22.18 acres
  • 22.18 acres
  • 14786 m²

If you press the “Back” button and then the “Start” button again, you can repeat the process. Upon returning to the starting point and pressing “Area,” the device will show the average of both measurements:

  • 02 times average 22.18 acres
  • 22.18 acres
  • 14786 m²

To clear previous records, press the “SET” button when the measurement result is displayed. Historical data can affect the accuracy of the average. Press “Back” to return to the measurement screen for the next use.

4. Manual Area Measurement:

In cases where there are obstacles like buildings, bridges, tunnels, or large trees that interfere with satellite signals, manual measurement should be used. Place the device at the edge of the area and record key points. The more points you record, the more accurate the result.

While in the “Ready” state, press the “Set” key to switch from automatic to manual mode. The “ZD” indicator in the upper right corner will change to “SD.” Press “Start” to begin, then press “Save” to record each point. Continue this process until the last point, then press “Area” to calculate the total area.

5. Distance Measurement:

After turning on the device and entering the measurement interface, press “Start” at the beginning point. Move the device to the end point and press “Distance” to get the distance between the two points. Press “Back” to return to the main screen for further measurements.

6. Notes:

  1. For larger areas, if the number of satellites is above 5, the measurement accuracy improves significantly.
  2. Avoid direct sunlight on the LCD screen to prevent unclear display.
  3. If satellite signals are lost during the measurement, switch to manual mode to continue the process.
