Adjusting the adjuster technology on the tractor

1. Adjusting the closing gap. First, set the gap between the contacts when they are open to 0.7–0.9 mm. Disconnect the wires from the battery and armature terminal on the regulator. Then, use a battery lead wire to touch the armature terminal and power the choke's movable arm. When a spark occurs, loosen the shut-off spring so that the magnetized core pulls down the movable arm. Then, tighten the spring while briefly applying power until it just can't pull the arm anymore. This indicates that the spring is properly adjusted for 12V. Next, fine-tune the spring so that the closing voltage slightly increases. After adjusting the closing voltage, reconnect the previously disconnected battery and armature wires, then start the engine for testing. When the idle current meter pointer shows a slight discharge, and as you increase the speed, the pointer moves toward charging. Slowly reduce the speed to a certain point, and the ammeter pointer should swing back to discharge and then to zero. The maximum reverse swing indicates the reverse current value, which should meet the required specifications.

2. Adjusting the current limiter. Place a wooden block between the active arm and the core of the voltage regulator to keep the contacts closed, effectively disabling the voltage regulation function. If the battery has enough charge, start the generator 2–3 times using an electric starter. Increase the engine speed to a medium level, and the ammeter should show about 3/4 of the specified current value. Continue increasing the speed; the ammeter reading should not rise further, and there may be a small spark between the current limiter contacts. This is considered normal.

3. Adjusting the regulator. Insert a small wooden piece between the current limiter's movable arm and the iron core to close the contacts. Run the generator at a medium speed and adjust the spring tension to regulate the generator's terminal voltage. If the battery is low, the ammeter should read around 12A (indicating a weak charge). If the battery is fully charged, the ammeter should read approximately 8A, and the generator's terminal voltage should approach the standard value. This ensures the regulator is functioning correctly under different load conditions.

These steps help ensure the voltage regulator and current limiter are properly adjusted, maintaining stable electrical performance in the vehicle's charging system. It’s important to follow each step carefully and test the system after adjustments to confirm everything is working as intended.
