Prevention and Control of Grape Anthracnose

Grape anthracnose, also known as late rot, is the main disease causing fruit rot during ripening of grapes. In recent days, early and mid-maturing grapes have entered the coloring and maturation phase one after another, and from late June to early July, more rain and more rainfall have led to widespread epidemics of grape anthracnose. In this regard, Ma Xinmin, an expert on Chen green grapes in Shaanxi's Weinan National Agricultural Science and Technology Park, proposed comprehensive prevention from the following two aspects.

Agricultural control

Immediately after harvest, the damaged shoots and severely damaged old vines were removed and the permeability in the garden was enhanced. Thoroughly remove the sick shoots and leaves, pick up debris, reduce the source of disease, and use scientific pruning to increase ventilation and light transmission.

Scientific fertilization controls the amount of nitrogen used to combine organic and inorganic fertilizers, and nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers. With full use of potash fertilizer, only potassium fertilizer is used for topdressing to enrich shoots and increase fruit color and sweetness.

The reasonable load per mu is controlled at about 2000~3000kg.

Chemical control

A certain concentration of lime sulfur was sprayed before germination to reduce the source of pathogens in the orchard.

After the coloring, the spray treatment agent may use propiconazole, manganese amide manganese salt, anthraquinone, omeprazole, tebuconazole, difenoconazole, thiophanate-methyl, carbendazim, tumefax and so on.

Octacosanol/Policosanol (also Montanylalcohol, Policosanol, Koranylalcohol) is a a mixture of a few fatty alcohols derived from the waxes of such plants as rice bran and sugar cane, as well as beeswax.It contains about 60% octacosanol, followed by triacontanol. There is a much lower concentration of several other fatty alcohols: behenyl alcohol, lignoceryl alcohol, ceryl alcohol, 1-heptacosanol, 1-nonacosanol, 1-dotriacontanol, and geddyl alcohol. It is used as a nutritional supplement intended to lower LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol) and increase HDL cholesterol ("good" or "healthy" cholesterol) and to help prevent atherosclerosis, though some studies have raised questions about the effectiveness of policosanol.

Octacosanol is the main ingredient of policosanol and it has a variety of pharmacological effects, and may help patients with Parkinson's disease. Studies found octacosanol may inhibit the production of cholesterol.
