Correctly install agricultural film

The three essential factors for healthy crop growth are sunlight, temperature, and moisture. In greenhouse farming, agricultural films play a crucial role as one of the primary covering materials. Their performance depends largely on key physical properties such as light transmittance, thermal insulation, and resistance to condensation. To ensure that these films function optimally, it's important to pay attention to several critical aspects during installation and use. First, before installation, the plastic film should be stored in a cool, dry, and shaded area. Exposure to direct sunlight or rain can degrade its quality and reduce its effectiveness. If installing during winter, it’s recommended to bring the film to room temperature before applying it, as cold temperatures can make the material brittle and harder to handle. Second, any metal components used in the greenhouse structure—such as wires or frames—should be properly coated to prevent corrosion. Avoid using rusty or dirty parts, as they can damage the film over time. Also, be cautious about sharp edges or exposed metal wires, which may cause tears or punctures in the film. Third, during installation, the film must be stretched tightly and evenly across the frame. Any sagging or uneven tension can affect its performance and reduce its lifespan. For example, the Greek PEP film is designed with multiple functions like light transmission, heat retention, condensation control, and dust prevention. However, improper installation can hinder these benefits and significantly shorten the film’s durability. Fourth, always check the instructions printed on the film. Some films have a specific orientation, such as "This side faces the soil." This should be visible from inside the greenhouse, ensuring the film is installed correctly to maintain its intended function. Lastly, avoid installing the film when temperatures are extremely high. High heat causes the film to expand, and as temperatures drop, it may contract and tear. If the film does get damaged, it’s best to use a specialized repair tape rather than regular adhesive, to preserve its functional integrity and extend its life. Taking these precautions ensures the film performs at its best and supports optimal crop growth throughout the season.
