The new Yangzhou chicken is a new breed of “three yellow chickens†that has been breeded for many years by the Jiangsu Academy of Agriculture on the basis of local chicken breeds in Yangzhou. This breed was selected through breeding, hybrid improvement, breeds, and breed breeding. The egg and meat type chickens with high performance, fresh meat quality, fast growing speed, and strong living ability have been formally identified as the new Yangzhou chicken by the provincial appraisal of Jiangsu Province and listed in the “Chinese Poultry Breeding Historyâ€.
At present, the new Yangzhou chicken has established three strains. Most counties and cities in Jiangsu Province have breeding groups. Zhejiang, Fujian, Guizhou, and Liaoning provinces were all introduced.
New Yangzhou chicken feathers are yellow, with two types of shades, dark yellowish-brown and pale yellowish; main wing feathers, aileron feathers and tail feathers are partly black; yellowish-brown, yellowish, or fleshy. Strong disease resistance.
The new Yangzhou chicken hens had a production date of 182 days and 180 eggs per year. The average egg weight was 56 grams and the eggshell brown.
The new Yangzhou chicken three-month-old cock weight was 1.85 kg, the semi-crooked slaughter rate was 78.6%, the whole net slaughter rate was 70.5%, the baby hen weight was 1.40 kg, and the semi-net slaughter rate was 80.3%. The slaughter rate was 70.4%. Adult hens weigh 2.2 kg and cocks 2.7-3.2 kg.
The fertility rate of new Yangzhou chickens was 89% at the time of stocking, the hatching rate of fertilized eggs was 93.31%, the hatching rate of hatching eggs was 84.07%, the survival rate at 56 days was 91.1%, and the survival rate at 420 days of laying hens was 93.02%. Each breeder can breed 100 to 140 chicks a year.
