Rana chenzi female mutagenesis

The economic value of China's Rana sylvatica is mainly reflected in the fallopian tube of the female frog, and the dried product of the female frog's fallopian tube, that is, oyster sauce. It is a precious tonic and is called "soft gold." In the south, due to the relatively high temperature during the breeding season, the gonads of Chinese Rana pleura embryos differentiate towards males, resulting in a high proportion of males. Therefore, the issue of female sex in the Chinese southern forest frog breeding becomes even more critical.

1. Principle Chinese frogs do not differentiate at the early stage of embryonic development. When the embryo develops to a certain stage, the primordial germ cells differentiate into two directions: female and male. The gonads of Rana chensinensis embryos consist of three main components: cortex, medulla, and primordial germ cells. If the primordial germ cells enter the gonad cortex, the gonads differentiate towards the female; if the primordial germ cells enter the medullary medulla, the gonads differentiate towards the male. In the critical period of gonad differentiation, hormones can induce or change the temperature of the environment, which can promote the development of the gonad to a certain gender, and maintain this gender permanently, without affecting the offspring. According to experiments, applying a certain concentration of hormones in a certain period can increase the proportion of female Chinese Rana sylvatica, which can generally reach 70% to 85%. A comparison of young frogs at the beginning of the metamorphosis found that the Chinese Rana sylvaticus, which had been given sex hormones, was significantly stronger than the Chinese Rana sylvatica that did not have sex hormones. The female mutagenesis process of Rana chensinensis is shown in Fig.
