Winter jujube fruit branches can be used for grafting

The result of the winter jujube tree after three or four years generally needs updating. If the original shoots are used, there will be no buds on the main branch, and updating on the second branch will increase the height of the shoots, causing inconvenience to the overall management in the future. In this case, the germination point can be selected by a grafting method.

Before preparing for the update, be sure to observe whether the germination ability of the main branches is sufficient. If the branches are dry or near dry, they must not be used. It is worth noting that when all methods replace the main branch, do not use too old branches.

For the main branches to be grafted and replaced, when pruning in the early spring or before the end of April, most of the main branches should be sawed off and reserved for about 10 cm, so as to prevent nutrient consumption of shoots and reduce water loss. Until about April 25, grafting can be carried out. When grafting, the reserved part is sawed again to expose the new crop. In order to increase the survival rate, two scions can be connected by the skinning method, or the number of scions can be selected according to the thickness of the fracture. The buds must choose the right direction. After grafting, they will be able to obtain robust newborn buds.
