The Whatman brand offers a comprehensive range of single-use filters designed specifically for efficient and rapid filtration of both aqueous and organic solutions. Constructed with pure polypropylene bodies and membranes fused through thermoprocessing without adhesives or sealing agents, these filters incorporate cutting-edge design principles. They serve as essential tools across various industries including pharmaceuticals, environmental science, biotechnology, and food processing.

Anatop Syringe Filters

Engineered for compatibility with most solvents and aqueous/organic materials, the single-use Anatop syringe filters are capable of handling sample volumes up to 100 ml. Featuring a distinctive hexagonal geometry crafted from virgin polypropylene, these filters ensure zero risk of sample contamination. The manufacturing process excludes wetting agents and adhesives entirely.

Integrated within these syringe filters is an Anopore exclusive membrane, available in both sterile and non-sterile versions. Additionally, versions incorporating a prefilter made of micro-glass fibers are available for challenging samples. These filters boast several advantages:

  • Capillary pore structure
  • Manufactured using 6 mm alumina Al2O3
  • Low protein adsorption
  • Maximal sample recovery

These syringe filters excel in removing high molecular weight proteins or polymers and are ideal for solvent filtration in spectrometric analysis and analytical sample prep. For particularly demanding applications involving complex or tough-to-filter solutions, consider the Anotop Plus 10 and 25 mm syringe filters. These come with an integrated micro-glass fiber prefilter, ensuring no compromise in the final membrane's filtration efficiency. There's no longer a need for pre-cleaning samples or performing time-consuming sequential filtrations.

Chromatography and HPLC users also benefit from the Whatman Anotop IC 10 and 25 mm syringe filters. With extremely low extractible ion levels, they provide enhanced reproducibility of analytical results and prolong column lifespan.

Syringe Filters GD/X ® and GD/XP

Single-use Whatman GD/X syringe filters are perfect for difficult sample preparations. Available in 13 mm and 25 mm, their virgin polypropylene construction ensures no sample contamination. Exclusive layers of prefiltration—Whatman GMF 150 (progressive density) and glass microfiber media GF/F—enable even the toughest samples to be filtered with reduced manual pressure. Autoclavable at 121°C, these syringe filters handle sample volumes up to 3 to 7 times greater than those with unprotected membranes.

Membranes of the GD/X series consist of four layers:

  • Layers 1 and 2 in borosilicate glass microfiber (100% GMF) capture impurities down to 1.0 µm through a graded porosity system.
  • Layer 3 is a prefilter of GF/F, stopping impurities down to 0.7 µm.
  • Layer 4 consists of a filtering membrane of various materials (Nylon, PTFE, PVDF, etc.).

This technology guarantees high retention capacity at high flow rates, while overcoming issues common with unprotected membranes like leakage.

GD/XP filters share the same properties as GD/X filters but are optimized for organic ion analysis due to their minimal extractible ion content. Available in sterile versions, both GD/XP and GD/X filters find applications in:

  • Difficult-to-handle samples, heavily laden with particles.
  • Dissolution trials.
  • Routine sample preparation.
  • Food analysis.
  • Environmental samples.
  • Biological composite sample assays.
  • Metal trace analysis (GD/XP).
  • HPLC sample preparation (GD/XD).

Designed for rapid filtration of samples up to 100 ml, the Puradisc syringe filters are constructed from virgin polypropylene and feature standard Luer fittings. The Puradisc 4 and Puradisc 13 models are autoclavable at 121°C and come with a specialized exit tip that allows precise distribution of the sample into a "micro-vial," preventing air bubble formation.

Sterile versions of these syringe filters are packaged in medical-grade blisters, ensuring suitability for critical applications. Filters are also thermally sealed in blister packs without adhesives to prevent sample contamination.
