Exclusive layers of prefiltration—Whatman GMF 150 (progressive density) and glass microfiber media GF/F—enable even the toughest samples to be filtered with reduced manual pressure. Autoclavable at 121°C, these syringe filters handle sample volumes up to 3 to 7 times greater than those with unprotected membranes.
Membranes of the GD/X series consist of four layers:
- Layers 1 and 2 in borosilicate glass microfiber (100% GMF) capture impurities down to 1.0 µm through a graded porosity system.
- Layer 3 is a prefilter of GF/F, stopping impurities down to 0.7 µm.
- Layer 4 consists of a filtering membrane of various materials (Nylon, PTFE, PVDF, etc.).
This technology guarantees high retention capacity at high flow rates, while overcoming issues common with unprotected membranes like leakage.
GD/XP filters share the same properties as GD/X filters but are optimized for organic ion analysis due to their minimal extractible ion content. Available in sterile versions, both GD/XP and GD/X filters find applications in:
