To produce transgenic high-quality eucalyptus species for the paper industry

The Taiwan Science and Technology Company of Taiwan Province recently announced the successful use of genetically modified technology to cultivate for the paper industry eucalyptus species with high growth rate, low lignin content and high cellulose content. According to reports, the main tree species in the world are eucalyptus, pine and poplar. In the past, transgenic research focused on pine and poplar trees suitable for temperate and frigid growth. In recent years, the amount of pulp has increased greatly, the amount of eucalyptus pulp has gradually increased, and the output of eucalyptus pulp has been increased. This has become the focus of research on genetic technology of biotechnology companies in the world. In the pulp production process, manufacturers need to use strong acid and alkali to remove lignin in order to obtain cellulose in trees. A large number of chemicals often cause environmental pollution. The successful cultivation of new tree species can effectively increase the income of pulp mills and reduce the amount of tree felling.
